gallery one I was born in Liverpool, England. Though I spent the first 9 years in this unique city I was always a country girl at heart, being fortunate enough to spend every weekend from Easter through October, and six weeks in the summer, on a campsite in the beautiful Lake District National Park. Here, with great thanks to both my parents, I learned to love nature and the outdoors and to appreciate beauty in all, from the smallest beetle, to the largest mammal.
Being my father's daughter, himself an artist and photographer, I grew up learning to express beauty on a blank page and I tried many media such as sketching, coloured pencils (the campsite where I stayed was just outside Keswick on the shores of Derwent Water, the home of fine art pencils. They even have a pencil museum!), watercolours and finally Pen and Ink.
I first started using Pen and Ink as a teenager when my father brought out his old wooden box filled with nibs. I used the cross-hatch method to create some small pieces and for some reason I felt that whatever I did it seemed to come out alright. However I believe now that perhaps I had just found my forte.
I went to college in the late 80's to study Biology and Environmental Science in hopes to becoming a Wildlife Ecologist and while I was there I learned the technique of Pointillism while sketching exterior anatomy in a dissection class (although most of the work was done in pencil this is how many technical diagrams are done).
After college I came to Rhode Island in the United States and I began to use Pen and Ink again in the form of designs which I enjoyed greatly, however I have missed fine art and therefore am now working to create a combination of both.
